Robert Downey Jr. Describes Career Achievements in 1 Word

Robert downey jr. — recently finishing his decade-long run as the quick-tongued “genus, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” Iron Man — has grown intimately connected to his Marvel counterpart over the years.
With Avengers: end game now fading in our rearview mirrors, and opening doors to the MCU's Phase Four, it’s time to bid farewell to the man we have come to know and love as Tony Stark. As we gear up to witness Downey take on Dr. Dolittle and scam doctor John Brinkley, now also presents an apt time to look back on the actor’s successes outside Marvel.
From his Oscar-nominated turn in 1992’s Chaplin to The JudgeTropic Thunder, Zodiac, and Sherlock Holmes, Downey’s career has spanned genres and decades. From comedy to drama and back again, describing this man’s career could prove difficult. However, during an interview with The Off Camera Show, Robert Downey Jr. manages to do just that; he describes the basis of his grand portfolio in one word.

Robert Downey Jr. talks career achievements

Robert Downey Jr. is currently one of Hollywood’s biggest names; as an actor in such high-demand, his name alone brings fans to the theater. The question is: how did he get to where he is today? What does it take to stay fresh, to stay relevant? During his interview with The Off Camera ShowRobert Downey Jr, in reference to his career achievements, stated:
Though it may not be the most glamorous depiction of his career, “continuity” serves to embody the one challenge all actors must rise to — the need to produce successes on a consistent basis, the need to find work as you age, the need to remain relevant, the need to remain wanted, etc.
Continuity is not easy to maintain, especially in an industry that has always favored the young; however, men last a bit longer due to the surplus of roles in the debonair, suave, James Bond-esque realm. However, this gender discrepancy discussion could be a whole other article. To summarize what that article would claim: we need a lot more roles for women above 40 in Hollywood. However, at 54 years old, Robert Downey Jr has cracked the code to continuity; he has achieved long-lasting success (so far).

What’s on the horizon for Robert Downey Jr.?

Robert Downey Jr. does not have to worry about that continuity streak ending anytime soon, as he has several projects on the horizon. In 2020, Robert Downey Jr. will take on the lead role in The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle, in which he will team up with Avengers co-star Tom Holland (who is set to voice a dog).

Robert Downey Jr. will also star alongside Jude Law in Sherlock Holmes 3, which is currently in pre-production and set to premiere in 2021. You will also catch Downey in All-Star Weekend and an untitled John Brinkley biopic; however, both of these films have only recently been announced. As for the former, the film will tell the tale of two brothers who form a rivalry over their favorite American basketball player. The biopic will focus on a scam doctor who fooled the nation into believing that he could cure male impotence through the xenotransplantation of goat testicles into humans.
